Turmeric can be taken in powder or pill form. It is available in pill form in most health food stores, usually in 250-500mg capsules. In powder form it should be taken as half a teaspoon dissolved in half cup of full fat milk or with olive oil as fat makes its digestion and absorption easier.

Precautions:

Turmeric should not be used by people with gallstones or bile obstruction. Though turmeric is often used by pregnant women, it is important to consult with a doctor before doing so as turmeric can be a uterine stimulant. It is also a blood thinner so people using statin drugs should consult their doctor before starting turmeric therapy.

Health Benefits of Ginger

My first suggestion for those who suffer with  indigestion is to chew foods until liquid.

 When thorough chewing doesn’t fully resolve the symptoms, the next step is to try avoiding foods that are common triggers of indigestion;

A short list of such foods includes:

Dairy

Dried fruit

Dried meats

Raw cruciferous vegetables

Broccoli

Cauliflower

Cabbage

Brussels sprouts

Sugary snack foods that are loaded with highly refined grains (like most store-bought granola bars)

When further help is needed, regular intake of natural foods and botanicals that have long been used in traditional Chinese medicine to improve the overall tone and health of the digestive system.

 Ginger

The most popular and arguably most effective of such foods is ginger.  Good for so many of your organs and systems,

Ginger is particularly useful for decreasing bloating and nausea associated with indigestion, motion sickness, sea sickness, and sickness during pregnancy.

Ginger Provides Natural Anti-Inflammatory Effects and in very helpful in relieving the pain caused by chronic arthritis.

Ginger Can Provide Protection Against Colorectal Cancer and Ovarian Cancer.

How to Take Ginger

Ginger tea made by steeping a 1/2-inch slice of fresh ginger in a mug of hot water is usually enough to sooth an irritated digestive tract.

For arthritis-related pain, eating even a quarter inch slice of fresh ginger with food or freshly pressed juices can provide significant relief.

Real Ginger Ale Recipe

Ingredients:
1-inch piece of ginger root, peeled
1 medium tangerine, quartered
1 pint of red grapes, with seeds
2 cups of watermelon, with rind, cubed
4 ounces of sparkling mineral water

Directions:
Push ginger root, tangerine, grapes, and watermelon through a juicer

Add mineral water to juice and stir well.

If you use a strong blender in place of the juicer, use some of the sparkling mineral water to get the ingredients going and add the remaining water once the ingredients are blended together. Depending on the strength of your blender, you may need to use a strainer if you prefer a clear ginger ale.

Because this recipe for natural ginger ale calls for quite a bit of fruit juice, it’s best to have it only occasionally. If you have trouble maintaining a healthy blood sugar level, you can juice a 1/4 slice of fresh ginger root with six leaves of  lettuce, 3 ribs of celery, and 2 carrots for a ginger-flavored green vegetable drink.

Happy ginger days 🙂

Benefits of Betel Leaf ( Paan)

Medicinal Uses

The plant has many traditional medicinal uses.

Malaysians use the leaves for headaches, arthritis and joint pain.

In Thailand and China the roots are crushed and blended with salt to relieve toothache.

In Indonesia leaves are chewed with betel nut, and the masticated juice swallowed for relief from coughs and asthma.

In Pakistan and India it is chewed after meals and is believed to help in digestion and liver cleansing.

A lady rang the farm seeking a betel leaf plant, and shared how it is used in her homeland of Indonesia. She said it is valued as a natural antibiotic, and drunk as a tea daily to benefit health. This tea is also used to keep the body free of unpleasant smells of perspiration and menstrual odour. She said, it is also valued by people (particularly senior citizens) to keep teeth and gums strong and healthy.

To make the tea, take 2 cups of water and bring to the boil in a saucepan. Drop in 7 mature size leaves, and simmer until the liquid has evaporated down to approximately one glass. Strain and drink daily.
